In 2002 the Department of Japanese took in its first batch of 4-year undergraduates. In 2005 it began to recruit postgraduates majoring in “Linguistics and Applied linguistics”. The Japanese Department has a young and middle-aged faculty with plentiful teaching experiences, excellent teaching quality, and devoted to a fairly complete range of research orientations. Currently it boasts 14 full-time teachers, including 1 professor, 3 MA supervisors, 6 associate professors, 4 PhDs and 10 master's degree holders. 6 faculties of the Department have obtained their doctor’s or master’s degrees in the national universities of Japan.
