May 8 to 31, the demo lessons on integrating political and ideological education into College English that have been well prepared and repeatedly revised were successfully given to the public. The demo lesson series were sponsored by the Teaching Affairs Office and undertaken by the Center for International Language Courses at the School of Foreign Languages.
The series lessons that comprise College English (academic listening and speaking), College English (academic writing), College English (reading) and College English (translation) were respectively given by Li Rui, Zhu Yuanyuan, Zhu Xiaoyu and Cai Shanshan. In the series lessons, the four young excellent key teachers of College English vividly demonstrated to both the experts and teachers at their classes the strategies that might be adopted to realize the objective of political and ideological education in College English courses and integrate the political education into the instruction of the English language, culture and thinking by making the best of the political and ideological resources in the kernel textbooks now in use. The four demo lessons were highly commended by both experts on and off campus and other College English teachers for their resourcefulness, novelty and effectiveness. The overall design of these lessons and the concrete strategies adopted by teachers to lecture them were also highly commended. In fact this is the the pioneering effort that has been made in China to integrate political and ideological education into College English courses.
The series demo lessons constitute an integral part of the deployment of Jiangsu University on the construction of the political and ideological education in College English courses and are among the most important strategies that have been adopted to implement the spirit of Jiangsu University Seminar on College English Ideological Education Resources Development and Its Teaching Design. Thanks to its significance, the administrative and Party leaders of the School of Foreign Languages have given detailed guidance to this work all the way and organized the the School faculty to attend all lessons from beginning to end. The successful offering of these lessons has laid a solid foundation for the coming “Jiangsu University Open Teaching Week for Integrating Political and Ideological Education into College English Courses” and “Summit Meeting on the Construction of Political and Ideological Education in College English Courses”.
