From November 30-December 1, the 2nd “Yixue Cup” Business English Practical Skills Competition for Jiangsu Colleges and Universities was held in Yangzhou University. Huang Xiaohan, Li Rui and Sun Xin, three English majors (Business English) of the School of Foreign Languages participated in the competition. They won a first prize for teamwork. In addition, Huang Xiaohan won the only prize for “Best Competitor”.
The competition was sponsored by the Business English Studies Committee under China Society for International Trade and Jiangsu Business English Institute. It was held in the School of Foreign Languages, Taizhou College, with support from Xiamen Yixue Software Co., Ltd. 17 teams from Jiangsu colleges and universities participated in the competition.
The contest is aimed at promoting the discipline construction, curriculum reform, practice base, teaching staff of Business English programs in Jiangsu colleges and universities, boosting the alliance and cooperation between enterprises and higher schools, setting up an intercollegiate exchange and communication platform for both teachers and students, further improving the professional ability and quality of college students from Business English and related programs, and raise the overall quality of talent cultivation.
The competition comprises two parts: software platform test and on-site competition. It is intended to assess the students’ English language skills, practical skills of international trade, international business communication and interdisciplinary comprehensive knowledge application. The three contestants of the School of Foreign Languages overcame difficulties like short preparation time and unfamiliar business knowledge. Under the guidance of Yao Wei and Ma Ying, they actively got prepared for the competition through hard training. Finally, they won the first prize and the praise of the panelists for the wit and humor exhibited by them in the Q&A session.
On the one hand, this competition not only lets students exercise their professional practical skills, enhance their self-confidence, and further consolidate their professional ability and quality. On the other hand, it provides rich practical resources for the teaching and research of Business English courses, pointing out the direction for future teaching of Business English.
