On December 5, Dr. Lu Xueying of the Center for Modern Japan Studies at the School of Foreign Languages participated in the International Symposium on “Sino-Japan Relations in the LT/MT Era--Kaheita Okazaki and China” hosted by the Center for Japan Studies at Tsinghua University. She delivered a lecture entitled “Taheita Okazaki and Furui Yoshimi in the LT/MT Era”, dwelling on the contributions to the LT/MT between China and Japan made by Taheita Okazaki and Furui Yoshimi, two diplomats praised by Premier Zhou Enlai as “pioneers of the Sino-Japan friendship”. For more than ten years Dr. Lu has devoted herself to studies on the relations between China and Japan after the War to Resist the Japanese Aggression. Her lecture characterized by plentiful data and rigorous analysis was universally commended by the experts at the meeting.
The symposium embraced the witnesses of the LT/MT trade, including Li Deyou, former Deputy Minister of the Chinese Ministry of Culture, the former clerks of the Japanese LT Trade Office and the former Beijing Daily correspondents in Japan, as well as relatives of the Chinese LT/MT negotiators and the LT/MT researchers. They gathered at Tsinghua University to commemorate the sublime faith and selfless spirit of the Chinese and Japanese predecessors who have worked whole-heartedly for the normalization of the diplomatic relations between China and Japan. When the 40th anniversary is approaching of the signing of “the Treaty of Peace and Friendship between China and Japan”, it will provide historical reference for the future development of the Sino-Japan relations to review the interactions between China and Japan in the LT/MT Era.
Moreover, Dr. Lu Xueying was invited to see the special exhibition on “Taheita Okazaki and the LT/MT Era” jointly sponsored by Tsinghua University and ANA Holdings Inc. (School of Foreign Languages)
